Detective Harper was called to the luxurious estate of Mr. Reginald Worthington, a renowned food critic, who was found dead in his dining room just after finishing dinner. He had been poisoned with a rare herb known to cause immediate paralysis. His final meal was prepared by the estate’s personal chef. There were no signs of forced entry or struggle, and the poison was expertly mixed into the food. Four people were in the mansion at the time of his death, each with a motive.

Suspects:

• Margaret (the personal chef): She had been working for Mr. Worthington for over ten years, but he recently announced he would be hiring a new, younger chef.
• Lucas (the sous chef): He was Margaret's assistant, always overshadowed by her, despite being more skilled, and was frustrated at never getting credit.
• Elaine (the food critic colleague): She had been feuding with Mr. Worthington after he accused her of plagiarizing his reviews. She was visiting for dinner to “make amends.”
• Richard (the butler): Mr. Worthington had found out that Richard had been selling information about his whereabouts to tabloid journalists. He threatened to fire him the day before.

Alibis:

• Margaret (the chef): "I prepared Mr. Worthington's meal as usual and left it in the dining room. I didn’t see him after I served the food."
• Lucas (the sous chef): "I was cleaning the kitchen when Mr. Worthington ate. I didn’t touch the food after it was prepared."
• Elaine (the colleague): "I arrived for dinner late and didn’t eat anything. I was in the study reviewing some documents."
• Richard (the butler): "I was in the dining room earlier, but left when Mr. Worthington started his meal. I went to fetch his wine from the cellar."

Detective Harper inspected the kitchen and dining area. The poison, a rare herb used only by highly skilled cooks, had been perfectly blended into the food so it wouldn’t alter the taste.
